Work history management: designing tools for companies and employees

Practical workshop for Project DEBBI at the Unperfekthaus in Essen

Creativity and innovation will, due to demographic change, increasingly become a task for the older generation. The joint project "DEBBI-Discontinuous careers as an opportunity for innovation - opening up the potential of innovative senior by operating systems of innovation", the Research Institute for innovative approach to work and prevention FIAP eV (Gelsenkirchen) is carrying this out in cooperation with the Institute for practical research and project consulting IPP (Munich) and the adesso AG (Dortmund) and the gaus gmbH (Dortmund), focusing particularly on older employees with non-linear employment careers in the IT industry. Demographics-oriented personnel development tools have been developed on the basis of research in the last two years, making the innovation potential of older workers and the costs arising from changes in employment biographies skills visible and usable.

It has took the form of a “walk in toolbox workshop” to support organisations and personnel development staff who will contribute to the design of discontinuity and expertise diversity at individual and organisational levels. The central, practical results of the project work will be presented and discussed at a practical workshop on 5/6 June 2014 at the Unperfekthaus in Essen (Link: http://www.unperfekthaus.de/).

The concept for the walk-in tool box includes different dimensions of discontinuity in the course of employment, and addresses the resulting potential and problems for individuals and organizations. There are four thematically closely related prototypes presented for instruments that take different aspects of modern personnel management in the look and bring it into context.

The walk-in toolbox aim to highlight, the complexity of the phenomenon of "discontinuity" and visualize the associated challenges and opportunities for individuals and businesses. The tools developed during the project are currently being tested . The workshop will also offer the opportunity to exchange experiences and further develop the tools.
