Practical Workshop

Employment History Management – Business tools for companies and employees.

The DEBBI practical workshop on the 5/6th June took place in the Unperfekthaus in Essen. In three different rooms the project teams presented their results, which are the product of scientific research undertaken by the DEBBI subprojects. It also looked at the results of the representative survey of employees, for the performance of the innovative capacity of older people and younger people.

In the exceptional facilities of the Unperfekthaus the DEBBI instruments were introduced in the conference room and then presented physically in the tool room. The accompanying lectures and presentations clearly made the connection between the conceptual background of instruments. The participants were informed about the problems and context and objectives of the instruments, and then given the opportunity to try them out in the tool room.

Another room was set up to give a comfortable “living room” type atmosphere and used to present the electronic book, “Innovation through discontinuity”, which looks at the practical concepts in DEBBI. The creative environment of the Unperfekthaus encouraged the 30 participants to engage in lively discussions that inspired the project teams to make further important developments to the instruments.

The closings statements of the conference, made by project partners as well as a special guest from the University of Burgundy (Dijon), made clear that the important concepts developed in DEBBI, focusing on the problem areas of innovation capability in demographic change and the potential innovativeness of discontinuity, were gratefully received as a topic of discussion. The solutions developed at different levels of discussion will give impetus to support businesses and employees.

The two day workshop was organised with the Unperfekthaus and the Generationenkult-Haus in Essen to have guided tours, which included a presentations from the creator, Reinhard Lawn, about the theory behind these projects. Both projects also try to give answers the question: How can intergenerational working practises be supported to foster creativity and innovation. This complete framework programme related the working world perspective of the joint project DEBBI to a society as a whole and made the discussion to exciting.
