How can a wave of innovation in the field of electric mobility trigger new services in this emerging sector especially in the context that customers want and consequently establish sustainability in the market? The answer to this question is the fundamental drive of the KIE-Lab project.

The first objective of the project is the development and implementation of an innovation instrument - the KIE-Labs - for customer-driven innovation in the field of electric mobility. There, users and providers will develop joint innovations for services in electric mobility. These are - this is the second objective - developed into actionable business models for the regional context of the Ruhr area. Specifically, this means that the customer is taken out of the role of the passive user of the end product and has an active role as a relevant driver within the innovation process. The productive and systematic encounter between customers and providers involves a high level of creativity and innovation potential, shown in the latest version of the service research. Even economically, this approach of "interactive value creation" for product and market development is useful because of development costs, and because the risk of the markets are reduced. At the same time, the acceptance of the customer increases by the integration of their needs and concerns and, if necessary, reduces existing fear of the unknown, as are present in electric mobility.

Each phase is divided into three progressive work packages, anchor the relevant milestones of the KIE-Lab project.

Phase 1, Concept development: The goal for KIE-Lab is the development of services in the electro mobility field and at the same time to establish a sustainable infrastructure. It will include European dimensions of comparison for interactive value creation processes will be scientifically analyzed and integrated.

Based on the results of Phase 1, Phase 2 has the goal of using scientific monitoring and evaluation to develop actionable innovation paths (scenarios) for electric mobility services, and with help of KIE-Labs, the project partners, DEW21, should be able to introduce new sustainable business practices.

The final phase aims to take the innovative ideas, insights and impulses which have been developed in the specific business models, and implement these with the project/value partners as well as to anchor the methods of KIE-Lab in the electro-mobility industry sector wide.

Also important is to emphasize that the KIE-Lab project ...
• is open to all innovations in the field of electric mobility and to focus not only on electric cars.
• integrating other customer groups (women, the elderly, migrants) that are not currently part of the main focus.
• involves research with neighbouring European countries and pilot projects.
• clarifies that the findings of research questions relating to customer-driven innovation processes are open for research and practices in other industries and can act as a catalysts, e.g. for subsequent spin-off projects.
